What is the Best Greek Island to Visit?

Updated on December 18, 2016
Source

The Answer: It depends.

I have seen this question in many travel forums and have answered it a few times myself--after requesting more information about the person and their likes.

For instance, Mykonos is one of the most visited islands and although it is visible from my island of Paros I have never set foot there. Santorini is the island where the most beautiful photos of Greece come from yet I advise people to visit it briefly and then more on to another island with better beaches and lower prices.

Now it is your turn to respond.

Which Greek island do you like? Please vote below or make a comment.

Surf Ancient Greece

In Greece there are abundant opportunities to learn about the birthplace of western civilization while enjoying modern beach culture. You can justify a hedonistic lifestyle of sun, sand and sea as an educational field trip--and don't forget the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet!

Many well known antiquity sites are literally a stone's throw from sandy beaches. Our Parosparadise website has more specific information while our Visit-Ancient-Greece website provides a guide to major locations in ancient Greek history.

Islands that we have been to

Do you want some help deciding where is best for you to visit? Try reading about our adventures on various islands. You may find you like the same things we do--or maybe say "That's not for me!"--either way you learn something. Our site is www.ParosParadise.com

Milos: A geologist's paradise. Interesting for the rest of us with white sand and chalk beaches and minerals not found elsewhere.

Sifnos: A delightful collection of villages. Stay in one and have breakfast in another because the island is small and cosy.

Amorgos: A touch of old; a touch of new in dramatic scenery. Enough off the beaten path to still have an authentic old Greek experience.

Santorini: consistently rated one of the top ten views in the world. Best seen at off-season for cruise lines.

Ios: The under twenty-five's party island. Others have been know to enjoy it too.

Naxos: Big, beautiful and varied. Rent a scooter and wander; that's what we have done several times.

Tinos: Even bigger, maybe more varied; well worth the visit.

Folegandros: Unique culture; old Greece in a microcosm. Best visited during the summer as very little open year around.

Syros: Sophisticated: big town or small city; great for a fun filled weekend.

Crete: Has everything; a must see. Biggest of all and full of antiquities, more modern history, quaint towns and super beaches and mountains and gorges and . . .

Mykonos: The epitome of glitzy night life with the prices to match.
